1. Do you need to be able to play blu-rays?
2. Do you want to do online gaming?
The PlayStation 3 costs more, but you also get more (blu-ray player, free online, built-in hard drive). The basic ps3 costs $300 and has a 160gb hard drive (or $350 for one with a 320gb hard drive).
For comparable specs in a 360 (250gb hard drive, but NO blu-ray player), it'll cost $300, and then you also have to pay $50 - $60 per year if you want Xbox Live. So you end up paying more for less. There is also a 4gb Xbox for $200, which might be enough for you. You might need an additional hard drive to play online, but I'm not sure. If you have enough technical knowledge you can also put just a regular 2.5" SATA hard drive in the 360.
I don't have any experience with either the PS3 Move or the 360 Kinect, so I'll leave it to others to comment on that. I have a Wii so I don't really plan on checking the Kinect out until I hear overwhelmingly good things about it and the price comes down, neither of which I see happening anytime soon.
Having said that, I still prefer the 360. I can't get past the playstation controllers, and IMO the 360 has some pretty sweet exclusive games (never really played ps3's exclusive games). As far as sports games go, they both have pretty much the same games. Good points.
couple things to add.
XBox also supports flash memory devices now, so you can plug in your USB flash drive and use it as a HDD. Might make the 4GB version more appealing.
PS3 has some really good exclusives, but for some reason their multiplatform games have historically tended to be worse than their 360 counterparts. Some blame it on lazy developers and some blame it on the PS3's architecture, but it's still a problem. Recent big name titles like COD Black Ops and Mafia II both had graphical issues on the PS3, but the list is much longer. If this sort of thing means anything to you, then it might be a factor.

I have a PS3 so I am going to say PS3. If you want to go into the motion component the PS Move is much more like the Wii than the Xbox thing. PS3 has free online play and that's cool. If you like baseball games PS3 has MLB THE SHOW!!!!!!! and Xbox has 2k. SHOW>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>2k

I agree about the controller too. It will probably be an easy transition from the PS2 controllers, but it's really hard to go back to that after having a 360.

Get the Xbox 360 slim. Great improvement from the previous model. Getting mine in a couple of days cause my other older 360 RROD on me.

This happened to me a few weeks ago and I just bought a new one on black friday. If you haven't seen the new ones in person yet, they're sweet. Way smaller, built-in wifi, and 500% quieter. I'm almost glad my old one broke.

Re: Playstation 3 or XBox 360?
PS3.. I hear so many stories about 360's crapping out. Red ring, etc...
My PS3 is the first generation. 4 years later, no problems.

Re: Playstation 3 or XBox 360?
They can do a lot of the same things, but what's different...
- Controller layout and feel
- PS3 has bluray
- 360 can stream espn3 natively
- PS3 has free online play
- Kinect vs Move (you may not want either, you already have a Wii)
- Exclusive games
I like the PS3 myself...bluray + free online play + the exclusives.

ps3...compared to the 360, it's got way more pros than cons

Re: Playstation 3 or XBox 360?
I don't know much about PS3 but the 360 with Kinect is pretty awesome online viewing experience. Kind of shows the future of TV viewing. ESPN3 in HD, Netflix movies/shows, ect is so cool. You select what you want by moving your hand around and stopping on the show/game that you want to watch.
