Playstation 3 or XBox 360?
Which one should I get my kids (and me) for Xmas? My kids are grade school age if that matters. We currently have a Wii and a Playstation 2. My daughter enjoys the Wii type games, Wii sports for example. My son and I like EA Sports games, college football, Madden, etc....
Thanks for any advice.

I basically play exclusively sports games and IMO the 360 has better ones compared to the PS3. The Kenect system also take the WII one step further. I can't honestly give much of an opinion on the PS3 other than the sports games because thats all I've played.

Do you plan on getting the motion control component for whichever system you decide upon?

Re: Playstation 3 or XBox 360?
i personally would choose the 360. yes the ps3 has blu-ray capabilities and free (i think) online play but the new kinect system for the 360 is pretty sweet. also xbox's online play is far better than that of playstations. id rather pay 60 bucks a year to get decent gameplay then deal with poor online gameplay. both of them have their positives and it all depends on what youre looking for

Xbox 360 hands down no question.

I don't think you can go wrong with either system. Both are great IMO. I prefer PS3 but that's just me. You said you guys had a PS2 before so if you're accustomed to Playstation and the controller, I'd go PS3.

I got the PS3, but I'm still getting used to the controller because I've always played XBox before. So I second the notion of getting a PS3 if you are used to the controllers.

Last console debate topic went 5 pages, let's see if we can beat it! http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/...em-xmas-5.html
PS3 = free online and blu-ray player

Re: Playstation 3 or XBox 360?
I have both and the 360 gets far more play time. On the subject of controllers, I think the controller for the Xbox is far better for adult sized hands. The PS3 controller feels very tiny by comparison, not to mention that the over all ergonomics and layout are better on the 360.

Re: Playstation 3 or XBox 360?
I'm partial to the 360, but it's really a personal preference. I don't like the ps2/3 controllers at all, but if you already have a ps2 then that won't bother you. Other than that it really boils down to a few questions.
1. Do you need to be able to play blu-rays?
2. Do you want to do online gaming?
The PlayStation 3 costs more, but you also get more (blu-ray player, free online, built-in hard drive). The basic ps3 costs $300 and has a 160gb hard drive (or $350 for one with a 320gb hard drive).
For comparable specs in a 360 (250gb hard drive, but NO blu-ray player), it'll cost $300, and then you also have to pay $50 - $60 per year if you want Xbox Live. So you end up paying more for less. There is also a 4gb Xbox for $200, which might be enough for you. You might need an additional hard drive to play online, but I'm not sure. If you have enough technical knowledge you can also put just a regular 2.5" SATA hard drive in the new slim 360's.
I don't have any experience with either the PS3 Move or the 360 Kinect, so I'll leave it to others to comment on that. I have a Wii so I don't really plan on checking the Kinect out until I hear overwhelmingly good things about it and the price comes down, neither of which I see happening anytime soon.
Having said that, I still prefer the 360. I can't get past the playstation controllers, and IMO the 360 has some pretty sweet exclusive games (never really played ps3's exclusive games). As far as sports games go, they both have pretty much the same games.

I have them both too and the PS3 controller equals an instant hand cramp for me.

I recommend PS3 - you have a PS2, so the controller will be the same, the kids will like EA Sports and Ratchet & Clank, and the family will love Blu-Ray/streaming Netflix. My wife got me Madden last year for the XBox and it was the first sports game I have ever played using that controller and I hated it. For me, the only sports game I play using the XBox is Fifa 10, everything else is PS3.
