My old Sony television just bit the dust ......

Would you buy, or have you recently purchased a new flat screen?

I believe I have "settled" on Sony, Samsung, or LG, 40 to 46 inches, LED/LCD non 3D.
Your recommendations and comments would be appreciated with regard to picture, ease of use, remote, etc.

Cant really go wrong with the areas you've settled on with sony\samsung and those sizes. Model selection from there pretty much depends on what you want to pay for (usually on amazon they have a little chart for all the model numbers what contains what for sony\samsung tvs)

I think it would be hard to go wrong with the brands you mentioned. Since you're going the LED route it's hard to buy one that's not packed with all the goodies. If you can fit a 46" I always recommend go for the larger size. I don't think I've heard anyone say "I wish I would have gotten a smaller tv".

Bought this Samsung this summer, absolutely love it. The 120hz is fun to turn on when watching sports or blu-ray. Makes things have more depth and a 3D like look. Some people don't like the look, but the auto motion plus is easy to switch off if you are one of those people. The 60hz version is a little cheaper if you do not think you would want that feature.
Really easy to use, great picture, and price went down quite a bit. I've heard from a lot of people that Samsung or Sony are the way to go.

46 inch Samsung or Sony or Vizio are all top notch. Try buydig.com. slickdeals.net, tiger direct, newegg.com. I just pickled out a 3D to be ready for ESPN sports.

Probably not up to the Sony level but after dealing with the customer service of Samsung compared to my experience with Costco, I'd probably choose the Vizio and pocket the change. I don't know how Sony's customer service is but I assume it's not much better than Samsung?

Picture quality has a higher rating than many. It is not in the big leages, but it should be looked at as a possibility. That said, I just bought a Samsung. They lowered their prices more than Sony.

I am having a tough time rationalizing the 46 size, vis-a-vis price, because of the "goodies" that (as you mention) are included with LED/LCD.
I expect to get a Blu Ray player as well, so the 200-350 dollar difference with respect to the larger screen is a concern.

I really think I want a Samsung, but Sony is such a fabulous well known quantity, and the LG has many features for "less" bucks.

have a 46 inch Toshiba LCD thing is wonderful Greatest day of my life whn I had the excuse to buy it cuz my dinosaur bit the dust. Enjoy it the price tag is rough but now you get to exercise your man card

There are lots of televisions that have great images. The kind that just blow you away when you first shop for a new one. Then I walked into Traviss Audio/Video in Des Moines and the Sony Bravia blew me away. Take a look at the 46" BRAVIA EX710 Series HDTV. It can be had for about 1200.00 and it is freaking incredible.

I, too, have a Toshiba. It is a 1080p 56" DLP but the bulb burned out, so I have to take care of that bit of business too.
It is downstairs and it IS IN MY MAN CAVE, (along with my card.)

Infortunately, I am still cleaning up from the sump pump not working last spring.
(The cave got a little wet.)
I had it set up with surround, and I LIVED DOWN STAIRS!

Sorry Mac, I didn't take the time to look this up. Is this an LED/LCD?

I was at Travis yesterday, and they have 6-7 of these left for less than a grand ---KDL 40NX 700.
But I am sure the EX is a much better set.
