    Sad story about a couple that had a baby with S.M.A.

    My cousin and her husband had a baby with SMA. He lived to be a year old. He passed away right around Thanksgiving a few years ago. Funerals are never fun but his funeral was by far the hardest one I have had to be at.

    The sad thing about SMA, or DMD, or other such neuro-muscular diseases/disorders, is the helplessness as the child basically wastes away. A sudden death of a child is one thing. A slow, nearly inevitable march towards a young death is quite another.
