I'll be home for Chistmas: Travel Advice
I am driving the family from Albuquerque to CB on the 23rd on an all day 14-16 hour trek, I am not sure how many of you know the trip, but any advice is appreciated- I could cut across Kansas on 54 to 56 to 70 to Lincoln, or head to Nebraska City and hit I 29 to CB
OR
I25 North to Denver and I80 across Nebraska (a little longer but on Interstates the whole way).
My question is this: Would you avoid Denver at the peril of driving through Kansas (America's wasteland)?

The only thing with avoding driving through Kansas is that you'll still have to drive through Nebraska.....I'm not sure which is worse.

With the family in tow and seasonal weather to consider, stick to the interstate. I'd go I-25 to Denver and I-80 to Council Bluffs. You can bypass Denver for the most part. If you have car trouble or weather flares up, best to be on the most beaten path when you've got kids in the car.

FWIW, Denver is supposed to have good weather the next few days. All the snow is caught up in the mountains.

Thanks, I was thinking about going through Denver, but was wary of the snow they get. If it is going to be nice, I think I will go that way!

Partly cloudy, high of 44 on 12/23. Of course, you'll be through early in the day.

FYI, Thursday they are calling for some snowy weather in the Omaha area. I dunno how that will affect your drive but you may run into something.

My question is this: Would you avoid Denver at the peril of driving through Kansas (America's wasteland)? If you don't mind paying tolls, you can avoid downtown Denver by taking E-470 right to 76. Depending on the time of day 25 through Denver can be a real headache.
They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there. -

ABQ is 6hrs from Denver. OP should be coming through Denver after the AM rush and before lunch time. Traffic shouldn't be a concern, especially this close to the holiday.
