Seeing Ben Cottons name on the back of the jersey got me thinking about Ames High Athletes that played because there dad coached at ISU. I was wondering if there were other good Ames High players (any sport) that were sons/daughters of ISU coaches.

Kevin Jackson's kid played at Gilbert, I think quite a few send their kids there.
I'm guessing less travel for the most part on road games let's them see more games.

And most of the nicer houses in Ames are on the north side of town which is in the Gilbert school district.

Cole Jackson started out at AHS but found out he was going to have to sit out some of the season as per IHSAA transfer rules because he lives in the Gilbert school district. He was practicing as a DL at AHS and ended up as a RB at Gilbert.
Jimmie Burrow was an ISU assistant that ended up as head coach at Ames High for a few years. Both his kids, Jamie and Danny ended up following him to Nebraska after they played at Ames High. Both played at NU but I believe Jamie made a bigger impact playing middle linebacker. I believe Danny was a DB. I think he was an assistant under Solich. He's at Ohio University now as their DC.

Not to threadjack, but isn't Jamie the guy that owns the Nutrishop at 50th and Mills Civic?? He seemed like a good guy when I met him, if it's the same guy.
Mike Berry's (assitant FB coach) son Joe Berry was a stud LB at AHS but they moved away after his Soph year to the University of Colorado. Joe went to U of Michigan out of high school and later transferred to USC. Joe has coached in the NFL for many years and is currently the LB coach at USC.
I found this in his bio:
He was a 2-time (1987-88) All-Colorado pick at Fairview High in Boulder after earning All-Iowa second team honors as a 1986 sophomore at Ames (Ia.) High.
Kylan Loney Arizona State was a Four-year starter at point guard was named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team during NCAA Sweet Sixteen run. She was a track star at AHS also. Her dad is Steve Loney.
I lived in Gilbert for 6 years. I absolutely loved the community and some of my best memories were at school in Gilbert. Lets not forget Ryan Baum which I had the great fortune to play several pick up games with. The McFarlands sent there kids to Gilbert along with the Rhoads'. It truly is a great community.

Yes, it's the same guy. I was a sophomore at Ames when Jamie was a senior and was asked to practice with the Varsity squad after our season was over with about 9 other guys in my class (Ames went to the finals that year and lost to IC High) - Jamie was an incredible athlete and was a nice guy everytime I talked to him, even being a couple years older than me in high school.
Last time I talked to him was a few years ago during an Ames High game, and he said that he was cut by the Jets during their last round of cuts after graduating from Nebraska. That's when I remember him mentioning running a supplement store in Des Moines.
The only ISU coach's kid I remember going to school with was Tim Floyd's daughter.
You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.
The moral: you gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not.
