Rep points repetitious question.

I know this has been asked but I could not find it in the "Did You Know" section or other place I though it maybe.

Do you earn rep purely on the 'rep button' form other users or do you get some for posting and such automatically.

and

How does the green rep meter work. Is the unhighlighted green the total you have and the bright green the working to a another block of rep or what?

You only get rep from other users. You get a small amount of credits for logging in, posting, etc., but that's the only thing accumulated by posting.

The difference in color blocks is just to differentiate and count total blocks. I think it alternates "5 light green, 5 dark green".

Could you go into a little more detail about rep bar so I can understand what Im seeing a little better. I know its simple but Im looking at your explanation the wrong way, I get the rest though thank!

It's basically an indicator for how much rep you have. The only reason there's a change in color is to differentiate between the two "halves" of the full bar.

Everyone knows best I understand that, but why not have each lit up bar be so many points that way you know what everyone has for rep instead of going up by 5's? Or is there a better way to tell just off the rep bar?

I really like being able to preview a topic by sitting on it for a while, if other forums did this it would be better.
