Mediacom
Any recommendations on how to get a cheaper rate from Mediacom before I give them a call? I just noticed my bill went from $28.96 to $61.95 for HSI

Re: Mediacom
You probably had any speed for whatever price for 6 months or whatever? call and cancel, even if it worked all the time, no internet service is worth $60 a month. I think we pay $35 (no contract) for "7 mb" from them.

They will do whatever they can to keep you as a customer and will drop the rate to keep you.
I recently went through this with Qwest/DirecTV. They raised the package about $40 a month and I called and told them I value their service, but could get cheaper else where. They told me that my 'promotion' had expired and they would put me on their new promotion to lower the cost back down.

Good luck...a lot of times anymore it seems like these places will just let you go. I had the best luck finding an outside agency on a flyer that was able to give us a really good price which didn't expire through mediacom...

Re: Mediacom
My sister did that with Mediacom a few months back. They have a "retention" department or whatever they call it. Say you are going to cancel or reduce services and sometimes they can work you a deal. I think they reduced her bill like 30-40/mo. She has all 3 services bundled: phone, cable, internet - don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Well, this was about 3 weeks ago so this wasn't the case in my situation.

It is 3mbps, still pretty fast although you probably could not stream HD. It's regular price is $45/mo for non-TV subscribers or like $30/mo for TV subscribers.

Re: Mediacom
I just recently, last 3 months, switched from Qwest/Directv to Mediacom. I called Directv almost on a weekly basis to try and get HD channels for a low price and they wouldn't budge. I told them I would leave and the operators said they would connect me with the disconnect people. I then switched to Mediacom and called and cancelled Directv. They then offered me everything for free. SOBs. Told them it was too late. I hate dealing with these people. Just call and talk to them. Good luck.

Re: Mediacom
I just went through this with Mediacom within the last couple weeks. Mediacom wouldn't match what DTV/Qwest would do. It told them where they needed to be in order for me to stay and they wouldn't do it. They told me that maybe if I went to the local Mediacom office they could offer me a better deal, but I wasn't going to drive there just to be told that they still couldn't match the price.

And that's what they bank on. They should have just transferred you to that office if they were sincere.

Re: Mediacom
Ouch, they didn't even try to keep me.
"I need to talk to someone about disconnecting my internet"
"May I ask why you're leaving"
"Because my bill doubled in the last month"
"OK you'll need to bring your modem into the office and it will be cancelled in 7 days"
I guess they called my bluff.

I guess they called my bluff. You need to say something like... 'ive got this offer from directtv, if you can do something to at least be closer to that, i'm willing to consider it just to avoid the hassle of switching'

Re: Mediacom
Just call and work with them. They will knock it down. Say its to much and you would like to keep the speed level.

It usually work with Directv and has for mediacom in the past but they were not interested. I wish I could get Qwest fiber in my area.
