    Wednesday Feb 2 Road conditions

5:30am drive from Johnston to Downtown

Driveway was barried in by the snow plow. Two stage struggled with 3-4 feet of snow.

Side roads were all ice and large drifts in certain areas

    80/35 westbound was fine for 2/3 lanes-50mph

235 eastbound from the mixmaster to downtown-2/3 lanes ok-40 to 50mph.

Didn't see any vehicles in the ditch.

I'm still looking at my 4 foot drift on my drive and trying to decide if I want to go to work or just take vacation time.

I-218 is closed from IC to Missouri.

Looks like work isn't going to happen today....

Plows haven't even hit the side streets in Urbandale. Just got done snowblowing the driveway, wasn't too bad. The two-stage did fine and the snow drifts never got higher than the intake like they did last year.

My driveway was about 2' deep for the first 20 feet away from the garage, and it's about 1' the rest of the way to the street. Should have taken my wife up on the snow blower idea!

Re: Wednesday Feb 2 Road conditions

I came from Ankeny to the east side of Des Moines, so it's only about 10 miles, but I-35 and the portion of I-235 that I drove on were almost perfect. There was obviously spots where it was slick, but the majority of it you could hardly tell we've had any weather.

Side roads and intersections were much worse.

Side streets in Cedar Rapids hadnt been touched at 6am. Interstate was ok, I went about 45. The other main drags in town were ok except intersections had plowed drifts.

My residential street in WDM was horrible. The primary side roads were plowed but very icy/snowy.

There was not much traffic and it only took me a few minutes longer than normal.

I just got to work on the south side of Des Moines, I live on the north side of Ankeny and took Highway 69 all the way in and the roads are in great shape. Traffic on 35/80 & NE 14th Street seemed to be moving along just fine.

I drove from the far west side of Ames to Nevada on HWY 30 this morning at about 5:00 and it wasn't bad at all. Not sure about west of Ames but I would think it would be about the same.

Where I live is pretty much, "end of the world as we know it". I'm setting late Thursday-Friday as first attempt to rejoin civilization.

My driveway in Ankeny had all the snow blown off of it :) no scooping for me!

Ankeny to Story City was good. Went 65 the whole way, and Im a conservative winter weather driver.
