6 ways you're getting screwed at the grocery store
No, this isn't about how to get laid at the store:) 6 Subtle Ways You're Getting Screwed at the Grocery Store | Cracked.com
Most I've known about but there's a couple (like the sunscreen) that I didn't.

Let's scare people into buying higher priced food labeled to fool you into thinking it is safer, more nutritious or even more environmentally friendly when NONE of that is true. The problem with that is that there are a lot of things that are hard to find outside of the organic/natural foods section. My wife decided we were going to try and eat better this year, and it is ******* me off. If anybody has a website that lists cheaper substitutes for some of the stuff these recipes call for, that would be great.

Or, if you must compromise, tell her she can eat healthy, and you'll continue inhaling KFC's new Quadruple Chili-Chicken Down 3 times a day and like it.

Actually, I'm WAY better about sticking with it so far than she is. I would really like to lose this massive gut I've developed the past couple years.

And it is, at least in my opinion, much more nutritious to eat "natural" foods which have far fewer ingredients and far fewer preservatives.
And I have no problem choosing to spend my money on the products I want.
I don't think the bold part is actually true.

I don't think the bold part is actually true. That's the crux of it for me. If there's a market for it, so be it. That's capitalism. People are motivated to purchase goods and services for lots of different reasons. Fear is just as legitimate a reason as any. Is buying something out of fear any better/worse than purchasing something for the purpose of status?

I think eggs can sit in the fridge a lot longer than the date on the package.
I know some people do the sink or float test on them.

I don't think the bold part is actually true. I'd agree for the most part. It really depends on the product. Some natural products are better for certain things. A lot of others just put "natural" on there. You still have to read labels, and that's what a lot of it comes down to. I'm not always sold that organic is better, but I do think that what you find in a Whole Foods is typically pretty good in general.
