So wife and I moved into a new house last Friday Jan 28th, wife called mediacom on Jan 17th and asked to have service disconnected...mediacom said they would transfer service....after numerous calls over the past few days...they told me that the earliest they can come out is Feb 9! 12 days no phone no tv and no internet. Please give me advice on other options...

Re: Advice please Mediacom or Qwest bundle
Congrats on the new house!
12 days sounds about right, as the storm probably pushed back install schedules and created more demand for service calls for most cable/internet providers.
Now would be a good time to explore all your options with Mediacom, Directv/Qwest, and other providers (Hickory Tech, Dish Network, etc.). Then, once you have all your offers, go back to all the companies and see if you can get any more discounts - a co-worker of mine was able to cut his mediacom bill almost in half when he told them about the offer he had from Directv.

I've had a couple of co-workers that have had a ton of payment issues when they've bundled Directv and Qwest so I've stayed away from bundling them even though I've used them both.

I had this issue also. They way they bundled and billed there would be a 100-150 dollar difference from month to month based on the times bills were issued. It made it really hard to budget from month to month.

I would run from Mediacom as fast as possible. I have DishNetwork. Have had them for many years and really love the customer service and programming.

Not sure why everyone hates on Mediacom so much. When I called the cable guy he made it out to me in about a day or two. Setup was super fast and easy. Free HD too.
Right now I'm paying about $75 a month for 12Mbps internet and 1StarPak Cable or whatever it's called.

I think there are a few reasons people complain about mediacom. Keep in mind that people complain about the others as well.
#1 Internet-Very few people complain about the service or the speed. Most complaints are about the price. If you don't have their other services it's $60/month, which is expensive.
#2 Cable channels-It sounds like they have really improved over the last few years but they used to be way behind in about everything. They would always have about half as many HD channels as Dish/Directv. It looks like they have really imporved.
#3 Cable prices-Yes you are paying $75 right now for cable and internet. What are you going to pay once that ends? All the companies offer teaser rates. If they give you those rates for 2 years than that's a very good deal.
#4 Competition-Most of us only have one choice when it comes to cable. Some areas like Cedar Falls have their own cable, which forces Mediacom to be more competitive.
#5 Customer Service- It used to be horrible. Don't know if that has changed but i can tell you that Directv customer service is just as bad or worse. Luckily I don't have to call them often.

I agree with this. Qwest is just brutal to deal with. In my opinion, Directv has a great website that's easy to use for bill pay; their phone is support is fast, friendly, and easy to deal with. Qwest's website and phone support is awful. Pay the extra $5 (or whatever bundling saves you) and keep them seperate.

So get Direct tv alone and then go to qwest and get internet and phone. After all the promotions end I would be at $150 a month just where I am currently at mediacom.

Windstream is where it's at (used to be Iowa Telecom)

Medicom? Mediacrum!
Quest? You jest.
Windstream? Sounds puffy.
Direct or Dish? Now you're talking, boy.
