    61 Year Old Gives Birth to Her Own Grandchild

    Almost 39 weeks ago, Kristine Casey set out on an unusual journey to help her daughter and answer a spiritual calling.

    Her goal was achieved late Wednesday when she gave birth to her own grandson at age 61.

    Casey, possibly the oldest women to give birth in Illinois, served as a surrogate for her daughter, Sara Connell, who had been trying for years to have a baby. Connell and her husband, Bill, are the biological parents of the child Casey carried, which grew from an embryo created from the Chicago couple's egg and sperm.

    Crying and praying, Connell and her mother held hands as Finnean Lee Connell was delivered by cesarean section at 9:47 p.m.

    The title is a lot weirder than the actual story. So she served as the surrogate mother for her grandchild? It sounds weird, but it's really no different than having a total stranger serve as a surrogate.

    Why? An interesting case, considering the circumstances, such as the age of the surrogate mother, but I'm not sure why it's so weird. If I read the article correctly, the embryo created with the daughter's egg and son-in-law's was implanted in the grandmother's womb. She carried the fetus to term, and delivered via C-section.

    Would it be awkward if it was the biological mom's or dad's sister? Honest question.
