Wallaby's: Concern or norm?

I am looking for a place to take a client for a casual sporty meeting place.

I recently heard a story of a very bad experience at Wallaby's.

Not sure I want to take a client there if management is as big of Dbag as I was told.

I understand the food was awesome, but manager (I think), a middle aged balding man, was a complete a-hole to customer. All over customer asking to have a couple tables put together and to change TV station, for a rather large group of almost 20. Customer was sorry to have spent couple hundred bucks there.

Sounded like a very poor example for management to set, and just wondering if it was a bad day for the guy, or if he would have rather been somewhere else.

Why not just go somewhere else? The food is incredibly average.

I would not rip on Wallaby's at all. Same food as Applebees, but more affordably and locally owned. Honestly, that is the kind of a place where there should be recruiting parties, radio shows, etc., but that's just my opinion.

Your story has no context which makes it hard to say whether it is the norm or not. I have been there probably over 50 times, but mostly for Cyclone games, but have never had any issues with customer service.

Did people want the TV changed to an Iowa game during an Iowa State game or something like that? Were the people who asked, d-bags about it? Did the guy who changed the channels have a bad day or something? Hard to know.

Just a story like "20 people show up, want tv changed, guy was mean, sorry to have spent hundreds"... I mean, if I go to a place, have a seat, and ask for them to change the channel, if they were punks about it, I would say I'm leaving, and just go. Not chill, spend hundreds, then complain.

But I guess I'm just different like that.

You're getting one side of the story and it could be a load of crap. Maybe your pal started rearranging tables on his own and then got all pissy when he was told no or stop or whatever. I've honestly never had anything but a great experience in hundreds of visits to Wallabys. I don't know any of the owners or managers, no connection. It's just a great place.

The owner is far from a Dbag, im guessing your buddy acted like tool.

Agreed, I've never had a bad experience there is several visits. Have family that eat there weekly and will continue to do so. Food is decent, prices are decent and the atmosphere for Cyclone events is great. I wouldn't hesitate to take someone there.

Did the group of 20 make reservations beforehand, or just show up with 20 people and assume that wouldn't be a problem? If you go to Wallaby's often, perhaps make a reservation and request to sit in your favorite server's section - that should alleviate any concerns you have... except if the client doesn't like the food.

Wallaby's is one of my favorite places to eat in Ames and I've never had a bad experience.

I don't buy the story. They almost always are pushing tables together; even the tall round ones up against the booths. There are a ton of tv's I've never seen them care whats on. People change the channel themselves.
