What are we looking at for weather over the next couple days? I see a bunch of pink on the radar but how much will we (DSM) get from it.
I haven't paid attention to forecasts for over a week since the weather has been nicer. Was kind of hoping we were over this, but alas, the girls state tourney awaits so I should have known better
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.
Thursday- Friday Morning: 2-4 inches for the Des Moines Area
Friday Night-Saturday night 1-4 inches over a couple different waves of snow
The most interesting storm is on Sunday night into Monday, as currently depicted the low track is one that typically would be very favorable for a good snowfall in the central portion of the state. That said the models are too warm on the backside and show mostly rain. I'm a bit skeptical that between the strong low pulling in what cool air there is to the NW and dynamic cooling that there won't be at least a thin band of good snows.
NWS just posted a Winter Weather Advisory for the Des Moines metro for 3-5 inches of snow and downgraded the Winter Weather Advisory to a Winter Storm Warning for south central and SE Iowa for 6-8 inches of snow.
At this time, there are no advisories or warnings in effect for Ames to the north.
