High School Girls State Tournament
Looks like the 1A First Round had some pretty good games. Heading down tonight to cheer on the Monticello girls. Anyone else heading to Des Moines this week?

Re: High School Girls State Tournament
If Linn-Mar wins Wednesday, we'll probably go down for the semifinal Friday (and if they make it, the Saturday final).

Re: High School Girls State Tournament
I don't follow it much but I believe ELC will start 4 sophomores and a junior. Could be interesting in terms of the next couple years if they make a run.

Re: High School Girls State Tournament
I'm going to the day games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Most excited about watching Mason City.

If Linn-Mar wins Wednesday I will probably go Friday, and if they make it to the Finals.

Re: High School Girls State Tournament
Monti girls pulled out another great win. this is probably one of the best teams Monticello has ever had. couldn't ask for a better coach either. looks like no school for me on Thursday!

Re: High School Girls State Tournament
I saw Geno Auriemma with the Stokes family out on the concourse after the Linn-Mar win.
Did not see Bill Fennelly (he mentioned on the radio last night he would be there today).
As for the players:
Jadda Buckley is very fast. Wish I would have seen more change of speed out of her - every time she brought it up the floor, she did it at 100mph. She didn't shoot well today, might have been an off day.
Maddy Manning - she's got some flair in her game. It'll be tough watching her as a Sooner.
Kiah Stokes - every time I've seen her play, it's like the guards just ignore they've got one of the best players in the country on their team. I'd just throw her the ball every time, if she misses the shot, she'll just rebound her own miss and shoot it again. Linn-Mar was down by one with like 20 seconds left. They inbounded to her, she dribbled out of pressure up the floor and made the game winning layup. It was beautiful. Any question as to why she's playing at UConn next season was answered with that play.

Questionable no-call at the end of the Ankeny-Linn Mar game?
I don't bring my own opinions, just attack others. -

Tough one though, because the Linn-Mar would have been crying "foul" too if Ankeny would have been shooting free throws to win with 1.0 second on the clock.

Re: High School Girls State Tournament
Coach Fennelly was there. I thought he was watching Ingle from SEP, but maybe Buckley from Mason City. Buckley handles the ball well and plays good d, but she had an awful shooting day. Couldn't even hit free throws.

He may have been there scouting other players as well.

Re: High School Girls State Tournament
Kiah is VERY tired. We don't have the outside game we use to have to support her.
