St Patty's Day: Debrief
Curious to hear about everyone's St Patty's day experiences yesterday. We did the parade at noon (downtown Des Moines) and couldn't believe the number of people. I’m sure the combination of spring break for local schools and mild weather had something to do with it. Not sure I've ever been to a parade (at least locally) where people were lined up 8 - 10 deep. I initially had zero plans to do anything in the evening, but a buddy and I decided at the last minute to go out for a couple (famous last words) and met up downtown. WOW! I'm not sure I have ever seen Court Avenue that packed. It was crazy! I'm sure the addition of two new Irish bars (most notably Mickey's) had something to do with the crowd size. Liar's Club had a block party that was packed as well. It was absolutely amazing seeing the numbers….people were literally spilling out the doors onto the sidewalks and streets. I passed through Beaverdale on the way to/from downtown and it appeared to be similar situation with people spilling out of AK O'Conner's, the new Saint's Brewery, and Good Son's (not to mention Cooney's). Very fun night and added bonus was being able to watch the NCAA BB Tourney games. Probably a very good night to be a bar owner. I assume that next year (a Friday) it will be off the charts assuming the weather is even reasonably decent. Any other reports from others that hit up traditional St Patty's Day haunts on Ingersoll or the westside of the metro, other places? How 'bout Ames? -

I was running around from bar to bar on Main St. in Ames. I went flying out of Sporty's back door took a huge leap off their dock, tried doing a Ron Santo feet clack in the air, fell and skinned up my knee and calf. It doesn't feel too hot today.

I woke up and went to work, then I came home and watched some TV and other random stuff, then I went to bed. Oh did I not mention I'm boring?

Lets see. I woke up at 6:30 am and then drove 11 hours back home from Tennessee. Then was too tired to really do anything and just laid around and went to bed.

You'll never believe this--
I was invited to a party at a friends house. The party was pretty much all gay guys, except for me, my friend, two girls, and the mother of the host. It would be the first time I would be really drunk, if you can believe that. The mother of the guy who was hosting the party was also drinking with us, and she was pretty cool. She got really drunk, around 11:40, and disappeared. I was really not paying any attention to what was going on so I didn't even realize she had gone. I just heard this story this morning from her.
Well, the guy who was hosting the party, he has a best friend come to the party, and this best friend ended up hooking up with the host's mother. The best friend used the line "I've been wanting this for a long time." I'm still laughing about this now. So while they were hooking up, someone knocked on the door. I looked outside and realized a taxi had showed up. I realized that the license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought, “Nah, forget it. Yo, holmes to Bel-Air!” I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 and I yelled to the cabbie, “Yo holmes smell ya later!” Looked at my kingdom I was finally there, to sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-Air.

Re: St Patty's Day: Debrief
St. Patty's parade was last Saturday out here. Played some hurling in the morning then marched in the parade with my kids. Nothing yesterday, too tired from trying to corral two little ones.

We were downtown and I couldn't believe the people either. We spent a majority of our time at Johnny's because we didn't want to pay cover at Mickey's. It was nice they posted the games that would be on all the different TV's so a person could try and position themselves accordingly. Loads of people and many good times.

Re: St Patty's Day: Debrief
Had a guy in to fix a gas leak on my fireplace. Watched some tournament games. Raked some leaves. Watched more tournament games. Watched part of a movie with the wife. Watched more tournament games. Played a video game and drank a couple beers. Went to bed.
I'm a wild and crazy guy!
