First announcement is April 4th. I don't know. I hope they bring in someone like Jane's Addiction or maybe a couple of punk acts. I really want to support this but haven't been able to make myself yet. Too heavy on jam bands.

I'm hearing the name, Josh Groban, being tossed around a lot.

Doing a little research. Eddie Vedder is playing In Minneapolis on July 2nd, and has nothing scheduled on the 3rd.
His solo show tickets are $75.00 so may be a little out of the budget.

Modest Mouse and Spoon aren't really Jam bands though. I understand they probably don't appeal to the Punk fans either.

Eddie Vedder would be phenomenal, but I'm not holding my breath. Bands I'd like to see (within reason):
Wilco
Lucero
The Hold Steady
Drive-By Truckers
Todd Snider
Flaming Lips
The Decemberists
Gaslight Anthem
The Avett Brothers
Mumford and Sons
Slobberbone
Hayes Carll
James McMurtry
Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit
Umphrey's McGee
There are a lot of other bands that would warrant going, these were just a few off the top of my head.
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -

Of course I'm getting older and less cool by the day.

Looking at Joe Lawlers music blog. 80/35 possibility: String Cheese Incident, and who is Skybombers? | Metromix Des Moines
The String Cheese Incident are Headlining a June 30th Festival date in Michigan. I would love to bring them to DSM, haven't seen them since college. That would bring the Hippies here for sure.

Re: 80/35 Music Festival Rumors?
I've volunteers for the 80/35 festival every year & know the DMMC people pretty well. The 1st two years they operated in the red b/c the headliners cost too much. I dont see them getting too big of name & trying to grow the event so they can afford bigger acts...
So I recommend you recommend going to all of your friends... The big thing I've learned going is that many of the acts you dont know are pretty good. 80/35 has a very diverse range of bands & they do this purposely to make you (& me) a more diverse fan.
I've done the VIP pass & bought mine on Friday for $100 a pretty sweet deal.
This year will be a little different as the DSM Social Club has moved (they are actually in process of moving to the Kirkwood Hotel Ballroom on 4th & Walnut).
BTW, its DMMC's Gross Domestic Project event this weekend... 6th Annual Gross Domestic Product Lineup Announced -
Re: 80/35 Music Festival Rumors?
I understand that money is an issue with who they get. My dream would be to have a band or two or something like them included.
Mudhoney- have to be cheaper now
Alkaline Trio- From Chicago
Goodyear Pimps- From Illinois
Peeping Tom- Mike Patton
Pavement-still reunited?
Sonic Youth
Seaweed-low cost
Beastie Boys- too spendy?
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion?
Melvins- having a jam band come on after them would be great.
The Evens
Descendents
2 of these bands or even 1 would get my attention.

Yeah the Beastie Boys would be great…but IMO they'd blow their already modest budget on one band with nothing else left…thus the tricky thing about a multi-day festival. How do you get some "names" but also have $$ left to fill the bill? Not an easy thing to accomplish. -

Scott Lucas and The Married Men?
(I haven't heard them yet, but there was a flyer inside the CD case of Local H's "Awesome Mix Tape #1" CD that my wife got me for my b-day promoting his new side project.)

I'd love to see Mumford and Sons. I'd buy a ticket just to see them.
