asbestos insulation
before i go playing around in my crawl space, i wanted to check to make sure this is not asbestos insulation. It's got the paper back and looks like fiberglass insulation, but i'm not sure. -
Re: asbestos insulation
How old is the house? Or more importantly, how old is the insulation? Any idea?

Re: asbestos insulation
built in the 50s, 53 i think. i've had 3 other people tell me it's fiber glass and that asbestos insulation is usually around pipes and not used like this. but i'm so scared of asbestos i just wanna make sure

If you have some that's loose it might be vermiculite which might have asbestos in it. Around pipes in your vintage house would probably be asbestos.
Are you wanting to get rid of it?
edit: looks like fiberglass or mineral wool batt insulation in the photos.

I don't think you have to worry though.

Don't want to sound obvious, but can't you just wear a mask?

If you need to remove any check with the experts.

It's got the paper back and looks like fiberglass insulation, but i'm not sure. Looks exactly like the kind of insulation my parents have in their basement, and their house was built in 1984, so based on looks alone I'd say not asbestos. Then again, I'm no expert, and I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so if you're uncomfortable about it you might want to have a professional look at it.

Make sure you tape all your vent joints well.
