Motorcycle registration in IA..how much $

Hey there fanatics. I am looking at buying a motorcycle to get me to work and back and was wondering what it costs a year to register it? Also how much do any of you pay for insurance a month as well on it. I'd be looking at just liability on a 10+ year old bike <600 cc. I know there's not probably an exact match but if you want to list what you have and what you pay approx that would be great!

If I remember correctly it was like $10.50 for my bike and it was a 919cc and about 5 years old.

That's what I like to hear. Do you know approx how much insurance is? I'm guessing you may have more than liability though

I can't imagine it being more than a couple hundred a year. Mine was $400 and I had full coverage and it was considered a sports bike. Don't forget the price of a helmet.

Thanks...already have a helmet from years ago when I had a bike in college. I think my parents must have paid the insurance then.

10.50 for the registration sounds right. I have a full sized Harley Electra Glide. The insurance for me I believe is $178 or $240 a year? I got quotes as high as 6-700. I'm with Foremost Insurance.

My registration was $10 and my insurance was 160 for a sport bike. Definitely only liability for that money though.

Depending on what "years ago" means, you might not have a helmet. If it is like 5 or 6 it's probably OK, depending on how long you used it and assuming you never crashed it. But much older than that I'd throw it out. Both the shell and padding will break down over time and lose effectiveness, not to mention that newer helmets are cooler (temperature wise I mean), lighter, quieter, and safer. Many people recommend a new helmet every 2 years and I believe some racing organizations won't even let you wear anything older than 5 years.

To answer the original question. Two bikes, 600cc sport bike and 1100cc cruiser, $10.50 each to register and $25 a month total to insure.
