Texas High School builds $60 million Stadium
CNN-McKay 60 million hs stadium
What are your thoughts on this? Personally, I think it is more than just a little excessive.

Jeremy Reeves' old high school
If they have the money for it, who cares?

Re: Texas High School builds $60 million Stadium
Sucks that a high school will have a bowled in endzone before Iowa State.

Re: Texas High School builds $60 million Stadium
An attendance figure of 18,000 per game would put them:
*ahead of 18 I-A schools.
*5th overall in I-AA.
If you have the money, and can fill it every week, then why not.
Population over 80,000 and just the one high school? Wow.

Re: Texas High School builds $60 million Stadium
Since football is religion in Texas, I guess one could call this stadium a "Texas Cathedral." -
Re: Texas High School builds $60 million Stadium
It was a voted bond issue. The community wanted it and they got it. I would spend those dollars differently but I didn't get a vote. If that's what they want, good for them.

Re: Texas High School builds $60 million Stadium
It does seem insane at first glance but it really is life in TX. I'm sure they will get way more than $60 mil back with the revenue that will create over time. If you include jobs and services that can be a great thing for the community.

Looks great. Sounds like just more then the football team is going to benefit from it. Good for them.

Re: Texas High School builds $60 million Stadium
Why would they bowl in the endzone when they can't sell out the stadium in the first place? -

And as i recall from a prior thread its not like theyre doing this at the expense of other academic areas, apparently its doing pretty well all around.
And just like our football programs, its very possible these facilities pay for themselves over the long run.

Re: Texas High School builds $60 million Stadium
I live just 6 miles south of Allen, in Plano (it is my son's high school where our new walk-on kicker is coming from).
When I first moved down to Texas back in '83 the size of the high school football stadiums was one of the very first things that completely amazed me. But they just keep getting bigger and better.
The sad timing on this new one in Allen is that many, many Texas teachers just got layed off in the last few months due to budget cuts. I realize the money for this stadium comes from completely different sources but it's still kind of sadly ironic.

Often, people from out of state and out of town build the stadium. After it is built, the only jobs are maintenance and concessions like work. Neither of those are all that great of jobs, and the same people that worked at the old stadium are probably working at the new stadium.
Like others have said though, if the majority of people in town want it, more power to them.
