Yeah, this is weird. The strongest parts of the storm dissipated right when it hit the west mixmaster.
I've heard a theory about why this might happen, more often than not, in Des Moines, and it's not the "two rivers" theory. I was a meteorology major for awhile (damn Physics). Anyone familiar with the theory I'm thinking?

Well, densely populated areas usually are a few degrees warmer than the outlying areas. Maybe the change in air temperature has an effect on the storm cells as they hit the edge of the city.
