I honestly don't see how catching an animal with your bare hands is considered illegal. Seems a lot more fair than shooting an antelope with a thirty-aught-six from 1000+ yards away.
I have no knowledge about anything related to noodling but this is the first comment on that article. Is this a possible reason or no?
The reason Noodling is banned in some states is pretty simple. From June to August is catfish breeding season. These fish are spawning or nesting when these guys come in and grab them. This can deplete local catfish populations. Although it does look like fun, i can understand why this cant be allowed to exist everywhere. Think about any type of hunting and the rules and regulation always protect them during breeding season. Same thing here.
I think the main reason it's illegal is because you're frequently reaching down into and disturbing nests/nesting grounds. While catfish aren't endangered, it's this kind of behavior that led to other species being wiped out.
