China Genetically Modifying Cows To Produce Human Breast Milk
Any takers to sample this stuff? What will they think of next! -
Re: Cows producing human milk
Science can be such a freakshow sometimes.

Re: Cows producing human milk
babies don't have developed digestive tracts to handle cow's milk, so this would be better if it was safe, but it is a freak show and I wouldn't let my kid drink it.

"It's good," said worker Jiang Yao. "It's better for you because it's genetically modified." What benefit is it to us to be drinking "human" milk rather than bovine milk? It sounds like they're trying to market it to normal adults. Not sure I'd be first in line for it.

Not sure I'd be first in line for it. To adults? Probably not much. Human milk has more essential fats, and certain vitamins and minerals than cows milk. Cows milk has more protein, along with sodium and potassium, while having less lactose and fat.

Not sure I'd be first in line for it. I am guessing this is for babies primarily. As was mentioned previously, breast milk is digestible by babies' stomachs, while bovine milk is not. Even though (most) babies can technically handle bovine milk before a year, they need to stay on breast milk or formula until a year at least because it is higher in the fats that promote brain development.
I am a huge, huge promoter of breastfeeding, as it is truly is best... But part of that is bonding. There is no bonding here. I guess this is better than formula, but it is kind of insane.

Me too. Only my gf thinks it's weird and won't let me.
