Windows 8
More in depth here. Windows Newsroom: Video Gallery
Its a long way out yet, but it looks very promising. I think it will be super slick on tablets.

Re: Windows 8
I looking for Windows "doesn't crash when you try to play games". Wonder when that version will come out?

Re: Windows 8
It isn't really a long ways out, the beta will be out in just 2 or 3 months. Then about a year later it will hit the shelves.

Guess we have different views of long way out. I hope they spend a little more time and get it right. They are extremely excited about this one. One thing that will set MS tablets apart from the current generation will be the compatibility with applications in the business environment. Kind of pumped about that.

Re: Windows 8
I like the idea of the same OS across all platforms, though it is the same thing google has been working on as well. It will be interesting to see what they each come up with.

Re: Windows 8
I dont know if I missed it, but I swear I heard some time back about them really working the cloud into windows 8. Not sure why they didnt mention it.

Re: Windows 8
It is the logical next step to be able to use all platforms with one OS. If they don't then google will have a step up on them.

Re: Windows 8
I must be lucky or something but I've had every MS OS since Windows 3.0 and Windows 7 has been the best. I can't ever remembering Windows7 ever locking up on me.

Same, never had a problem with Win7. Unless Win8 is some crazy next-gen OS I can't live without, I don't see me changing my current setup to that.

The only issues I have with windows 7 is with my parents computers. They never let windows install the updates. So it does it automatically after a while and when it does it crashes the computer to where you have to hold down the power button to turn it off.

Yeah but with cloud computing it begins to become more realistic. I think google has a leg up on microsoft on this front right now. But Windows is what almost everyone has already. So their offering will be much more popular. Unless google starts offering theirs for free.

Microsoft has never delivered a light version of the Windows OS that would serve as a feasible base for a fast booting cloud based machine and Windows 8 will follow the same path - a big OS with a big UI that will run slow on the hardware that cloud based clients will run.
