Re: Today I learned about dead bodies on Mt. Everest
They recently showed the Everest movie at the IMAX at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, there was a part with a guy basically dying up there while they had radio contact with him. He was able to talk to his family (wife who just had a baby) and some other climbers. When the guy that was the main focus of the movie made his way to the top he had to pass this guy who had been a friend and he had just spoken to. Pretty intense stuff.

This would be an interesting issue to discuss in a philosophy class.

I saw this in a documentary that I saw. It must be absolutely brutal up there.

Touching the Void is a film about a different mountain expedition in Peru, not on Everest. Touching the Void (2003) - IMDb -
Re: Today I learned about dead bodies on Mt. Everest
krakauer didn't write touching the void- however that is a story by the climber that is also an amazing documentary as well.
read the climb. It is also about into thin air.

New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and his Nepalese guide Sherpa Tenzing are universally accredited with reaching the summit first, in 1953. But the discovery of the body of an English climber, George Mallory, who disappeared in 1924 while trying to conquer the summit with fellow Briton Andrew Irvine, is set to reopen the question.

Although, I should add that technically there are American Sherpas. There are about 5000 Sherpa people living in New York, according to Wiki. So, I suppose, they would be American Sherpas.
