Goodbye, great state of Iowa...
~12 hours from now I will move away from Iowa, which has been my home for the last 27 years or so (Davenport for ~18 years, Ames for ~6, and Eldridge for ~3). My family is moving to an apartment in Clinton Township, MI, that is literally across the street from Sterling Heights (easier to find on a map, which is why I claim it).
Iowa has been great to me, and I will miss it, especially family and friends that live here. But my wife and I agree that we definitely need a change in our lives, and this move will certainly provide that.
Michigan is gaining another great Cyclone family, and yes, I do plan on attending the ISU-Michigan game in Ann Arbor this year.
Anyway, so long, Iowa - it's been a great ride, and I'll be back to visit.

So you were the player-to-be-named later in the Chris Allen/Korie Lucious deal.

I've got my college choices narrowed down to Michigan and ND with an outside chance of ISU. Maybe I'll join ya up there in Michigan in a couple years.

I have lived on the other side of the Detroit-metro (Livonia and now Northville) for 38 years. Initially we were glad for the opportunity to leave Iowa due to improved career opportunities. Now, in retirement, we often think about moving back. We miss the friendliness and work-ethic we knew growing up. We desire the slower pace of life and the sense of personal responsibility/accountability that we were taught.
We are not likely to move back though for several reasons. Our kids, grandkids, church family and other friends are here now plus we sense that the Iowa culture has moved away from the values we learned and remember-- not as far as most other states but the values have moved none-the-less. We will probably ride it out here unless the kids move away.
There are good people here and you can have a good life, we did and we just might see you at the ISU/Michigan game. Welcome to MIchigan, the state not the school.

Re: Goodbye, great state of Iowa...
Did you work at the Rock Island Arsenal? I know a few people who jumped ship when they found out they were heading to the Detroit area if they stayed on board. I don't know how bad the area is...I am sure it is hurting, but I've got at least 2 connections that live in the area. Hope it works out for your family

Assuming you go to a lot fewer games...make sure and remember to increase your level of giving to the Cyclone club.
