    Clothes Dryer - No Heat

Anyone have experience with Whirlpool Duet dryers? We have one that's almost 6 years old. My wife has been nagging at me that it wasn't drying clothes very well. I had to put a load in the dryer before going to bed tonight and found that there was absolutely no heat. Is this something that can typically be fixed? Or is it so expensive that I might as well buy a new one? Any advice?

After a simple google search, sounds like I need to check a heating fuse?

As a general rule, the heat fuse doesn't "blow" with out a reason. Most common problem is an obstruction in the venting system. Check to make sure that you don't have any lint buildup somewhere. If you're not sure, call in a serviceman. Beat burning down your house (or blowing your replacement fuse).

My wife complained of the same thing and I checked the outside exhaust and it was full of lint and I cleaned the exhaust hose as well. after that we had much better drying results.

Pretty much agree with the above posters. I lived in a house with 5 of my buddies the past 2 years and we had that happen twice as well. Noone cleared the lint out and had to get a new heating element in it.

    Yeah, clear the vent first.

I would second this. We just bought a Duet washer/dryer when we moved into our new home three months ago. The dryer was taking hours to dry clothes (yet giving off tons of heat in the laundry area) until I realized the vent was stuffed with insulation. Remove that, and presto.

Air Hose is clogged... just had this problem... You'll have to disconnect it and clean out the air hose and outside vent. It has gotten clogged with lint. Kind of a messy/dusty job, but very cheap.

Just like everyone else, it seems, I gotta clean the vent every year or so. Ugghh. If I ever design a house, dryer will be on an outside wall. Right now, mine's in the middle of the house.

Check vent first - make sure the hose did not kink or become clogged.

Otherwise, you probably have a bad thermostat that is keeping the element (or gas valve) from kicking on. You will need a service call

Re: Clothes Dryer - No Heat

Definatley clean out the vent. My dryer is located about 12 feet from the outside wall, so the pipe has to go up 8 feet and over 12 feet this is over the length recommended by manufactors. Make sure vent does not have any kinks or breaks in it. If it is plugged bad you will probably have to replace it. I have had to replace mine and the second time I was very careful to make it was as straight as possible and used actual formed elbows at the turns instead of bending the flexible pipe. I use my leaf blower each year to blow out the vent. if you use a gas blower make sure you have plenty of ventilation, open windows and doors.
