Building a computer

I think I'm going to build my own desktoop in the near future and I was wondering if anyone had any advice. I am not really an expert or anything but I have a moderate knowledge and know some engineers that are going to help me put it together/ give me some advice as well.

I am going to make it able to play games like Civ 5 with the settings up pretty high, but mostly I want to have a very fast computer that works and looks nice and won't have to be replaced totally in a couple years.

I will post the parts I have been looking at in a bit, but the total cost I think was going to be around $1,500 before tax.

It should be a fun project.

Nice. I haven't done any deal searching yet, but I just checked it out and of the parts I have looked up they have been cheaper than newegg. Thanks.

I've build a handful in the last few years. I'd highly recommend an SSD drive for your OS and a few other programs and then a regular HD for everything else.

I've had good luck with Antec cases, Intel SSD's, Asus motherboards, Corsair power supplies, and GeForce video cards.

$1,500 will get you a killer PC.

I like the P series Antec cases. They are quiet, large, and have nice filters that are easy to clean.

I have an older one that has rubber bands that hold the hard drives so that there isn't any vibration.

newegg is the way to go if youre building a whole computer from scratch. ive bought from both and newegg usually has cheaper parts for everything. id definitely look at an either an i5 or i7 processor and at least 1 TB for a HD

since cash apparently isn't an issue, i've got to ask, why bother?

i've built my own pc's in the past but came to the conclusion that it isn't worth the hassle. component makers always pass the buck when something doesn't work.

I don't think you're going to save a lot of money and for most family members I tell them to just buy a dell. Some reasons I build my own though:

I can get exactly what I want. A case that allows me to have plenty of space and the ability to do future upgrades.

Things like the motherboard, memory, and power supplies are usually a lot better than your run of the mill manufactured PC's.

Nice fresh install of Windows 7 without all the crap.

If you are patient you could probably take your $1500 you would spend on those parts and find them for $1000 if you use Slickdeals: The Best Deals, Coupons & Discounts on Laptops, Computers, LCDs, TVs, Dell, HP, Apple, Amazon

They always have some great deals posted from sites like Newegg, etc. for video cards, memory, processors, etc... If you run into something that is only sold at MicroCenter (they have some awesome deals at times) just send me a PM and I probably pick something up for you from their Overland Park location...
