There was a Sebolt from Centerville that was a pretty good wrestler a few years ago committed to ISU then stopped wrestling cause his dad was such a physco about it he needed to get a way. I believe he was a 4x st champ. wonder if there is a connection.

Centerville is the home town of the supper star Mike Morris former long snapper for the MN Vikings. now has the AM duties on KFAN in the Twin Cities.

Saw this earlier. They were at a 12-and-under game. Unbelievable. Here's the Ames Tribune article too

    You stay classy, softball coaches!

    U12? C'mon. U14, maybe I can see throwing a haymaker at a woman. Never in U12.

Good call. Centerville definitely did not get enough play in that thread. I am ashamed I forgot to mention it. What an absolute **** hole of a town. Missouri wouldn't even take it if we offered.

Some people are just nuts. When my boy was playing little league tee ball, some parents were complaining, and THEY DON"T EVEN KEEP SCORE at that level.

All I have to say is that this is supposed to be a "game" and games are meant to be fun. This was most certainly not fun for the kids involved.

Re: Crazy Softball People in Ames

Wait, so the Centerville team wins the whole thing and then a Centerville parent has the nerve to confront the coach because her daughter didn't get enough playing time? HA!

They obviously didn't need her, and mama couldn't accept that. So instead of shutting up and at least acting happy that her daughter was a part of something special, and telling her daughter how proud she was, she confronts the coach because the next Derek Jeter didn't get to showcase her mad skills in front of the 10's of people there. Awesome.

I umped little league baseball/softball in Nevada and had many umps and parents tell me that Ames parents take their childrens' sports very seriously. The umps refused to work there unless they would pay double the normal rate and the parents said that they would never go back there.

I umpire right now in Nevada and I think half of the time it's easier to do high school games than it is to do little kid games.

Even if the league doesn't keep score - the parents and coaches probably are.

I remember when I was about 11 watching my little sister,s basketball game in a league that didn't keep score. I was keeping score in my head and my sister's team was up 2 and the other team made a long basket with less than 20 seconds. The opposing coach jumps up and down calling timeout as soon as the basket went in.

Here a bunch of 8 year old are playing, some of the players had no idea what sport they were playing, and this coach is acting like his team is 10 seconds away from the NCAA championship.
read this post quickly - it might not last long

Completely agree. It seems that kids and coaches in high school at least respect you.

Re: Crazy Softball People in Ames

[Thanks. I could not agree more!
Have a grandaughter that played on a u-11 team in Indianola. At the end of the state tourn. the coaches called my son in law to the side and stated that they wanted my grandaughted to drop off of the team. They had other girls waiting to join and that she "didn't have the skills to compete at THIS LEVEL". Granted, skill is important, but isn't fun more so at "this level"?
In retrospect, it is a blessing that she will be able to now distance herself from coaches who screem and yell at 11 year old little girls. The hard part will come when school starts and she sees the girls she used to play with. We all know how crule kids (and adults) can be. Children will soon be thrust into a world where all that matters is "Win, Baby, Win!", but at 11 years old? Thanks for letting me vent!
