Omaha NE property taxes

Yeah, I live in west omaha and the taxes suck big time here. They also just raised the wheel tax for everyone. I WANT MORE TAXES, ITS GREAT!

Its accurate and BRUTAL. There is no escape. Sarpy Co or Douglas Co. Either one has high taxes. We support the entire states revenue. Its rediculous.

Omaha is around 60% or more of Nebraska's population, isn't it? What other part of NE has the population base or value to support the state? Central City? Auburn? Beatrice? Loup City? Chadron? Syracuse?

Sorry for the fun with NE cities there. Omaha's going to support the state because you have the people, the value, and the money.

Sounds like you got a hell of a deal. I haven't seen a decent condo in downtown Des Moines with that SQFT for less than $400K.

I paid 260k. 25% of original listing.

Harris County, Texas (i.e. Houston) will have you paying about $9,000 based on the purchase price you listed (not on the 1.2MM asking price). Ugh!

They guy moved away 2+ years ago -- we were told he went to San Fransisco -- house is still furnished so we are going to have a massive garage sale,

4 months, a dozen homicides? Thats not really too bad at all. All cities of that size will have murders, crime in Omaha is not "bad" compared to other cities its size.

However, the number of ******** Husker fans is tops in the nation, and when deciding where to live, that is far more important than the homicide rate.

I felt saver in downtown omaha than i do in wellington heights in Cedar Rapids

I went and low balled 4 different condos that had been on the market for more than 600 days. This guy took it.

Yup. About 80% of the state's population in 2 cities.

Even though Nebraska has Omaha, they still make Iowa look pretty urban overall.

I'd look at it this way.

You probably got a $600K condo for $260K.

If you would have paid $600K, your payments would have been $2K more per month and $24K more per year.

It is called foreclosure. The taxes will be rewickered next year since they are always a year in arrears.
