Small town food recommendations
What are some small towns, in Iowa, that have some good places to eat? If I happen to pass through the area, it would be good to know where to stop and what to get. Let me know your small town food recommendations.
Thanks in advance.

Mt. Hamill has the best fried chicken in the state.
Augustus in Oxford has the best hand-breaded tenderloin I have ever had.
El Patio in West Liberty has my favorite torta, and it's only 6-7 blocks from my house.

All I know is that Iowa's Best Burger Cafe does not sell Iowa's best burger. It is a neat little joint though. I do enjoy going in there.

If you are in Shenandoah, go to the Depot. The food might not be anything astonishing, but it's a neat place to eat at.

The Checkerboard in Pleasantville is pretty good if you are into pizza & onion rings.

My wife had a "roofie" dropped in her drink in the Depot. Staff knew who guy was and didn't do anything about it. The only money I'd spend at the Depot would be on a gallon of gas and a match.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not dude?

Hwy 13 Cafe in Strawberry Point. Great Banana Cream pie!
The Embers in Avoca right off I-80 Great patty melts!
Don't remember the name of the joint but there is a place up in Salix that had the best cheeseburger soup I've ever tasted. They "grilled" little 2" round patties and put them in the soup.
Right up the road in Gilbert The Open Flame.

Thanks in advance. Can't just drive through right now with the Missouri river flooded, but If you are duck hunting by Riverton this fall go to Sydney and eat at Whips Steakhouse. right across west of the courthouse. Open evenings and I think at noon too most days.
