I live just north of Charlottesville (about 30 miles from the epicenter). That was one of the weirdest things I've ever experienced. I seriously thought that a plane had crashed nearby or a truck plowed into my house. Still, my 2 year-old managed to sleep through it!
News chopper hovering around the Washington Monument for a while now...for what it's worth.
Not a news chopper...it was the Park Service surveying the monument. It was hovering really close, a very rare site in DC for sure. Looks like they are saying that loose mortar/stones fell from the top.
