Re: Aussie Rules Football
I love it. Lived in Oz for a while and played it with a "farm team". I love the sport. They hit harder than NFL players and don't wear pads. Already in this game a guy got hit hard, went down and hurt his arm/shoulder and couldn't get up. The trainers came out and play continued until they finally got the cart to take him away.
BTW this is the Grand Final which is their Super Bowl.

Re: Aussie Rules Football
Its a sweet combination of football and soccer. You get football like plays combined with the non stop play of soccer.

No they can't throw overhand. They can advance the ball by kicking it (Punt style) or hand balling it. There are no scrums, you must keep the ball moving. You have 4 poles to kick the ball through. Between the 2 middle is a goal or a Between worth 6. Kicking it between the outside poles is a behind worth one.
That's the bare basics.

Just happens to be who is playing in the Grand Final. Collingwood and Geelong have very similar uniforms. One of my favorite teams is the St Kilda Saints.

Re: Aussie Rules Football
Might I add . . . When there are handballing it and not kicking it you can pretty much murder the guy with the ball. Also when the ball is in the air you can murder the intended target. Very physical with NO pads!

Re: Aussie Rules Football
I was watching this last night and the wife asked what it was. I said it looked like rugby but it wasn't. I had no idea what was going on but it was fun to watch. The players are crazy. It almost seems like they have no regard for their bodies and go like crazy. It was fun to watch.
