My turn signal doesn't blink when i turn it on
I'll be the first to admit I'm not a car guy. I can only change my oil and a tire, and even then, I still just take my car to Jiffy Lube for oil changes. That said, when I turn on my turn signal, it just stays lit up and doesn't blink. It happens on both sides. What would cause this? A bad fuse or bulb? I'm clueless to this sort of thing.

One of your bulbs burned out.

Bulb

You might just be a little low on blinker fluid. I'd try topping that off.

If all bulbs are good, blinker relay. How old is the car?
Re: My turn signal doesn't blink when i turn it on
Needs some blinker fluid.

Sometimes (like right now) they work just fine, though. Then suddenly stop for a while. Would the bulb still be the case there?

Car problems suck. I just had to replace my muffler belt. That set me back a pretty penny.
Re: My turn signal doesn't blink when i turn it on
One or both of the blinkers are burnt out, if that doesn't work test the wires to see if you have a fault or corrosion somewhere. If only one blinker is burnt out the other one should still blink but the light on the inside will just stay solid. Some cars the opposite blinker blinks twice as fast as normal to signal the other is burn out.

You really didn't need to admit it.
Re: My turn signal doesn't blink when i turn it on
If its intermittent, and all bulbs light solid, (none are bad) then there is a real good chace that it is the blinker relay.
Re: My turn signal doesn't blink when i turn it on
There is actually a mechanism called a "blinker" in a lot of older vehicles, often found in the glove box or near the fuse panel, that looks like a silver, quarter-sized, plug. Any auto parts store carries these and they're about $3. Just unplug the old one, and plug in the new one. Give the auto parts store your car make, model, and year and they'll tell you which you need and where to find it in your car. (they'll probably even walk out and take care of it for you)
Re: My turn signal doesn't blink when i turn it on
I have a 2001 Malibu that was recalled for a similar problem several years back. The actual issue happened to me right after the recall was announced but before I took the car in. In that case, the solder joints in the turn signal were poor and prone to cracking. I'd turn on the turn signal and absolutely nothing would happen. I'd check for recalls on your car to rule out any recalled issue like that.

Be sure to check the owner's manual for the right kind of blinker fluid. Could be "Type O", or "Type AB". You DO NOT want to put Type AB into a Type O system - TRUST ME!
