Tavern hawks make me laugh (and cheer me up after a loss)
So I was shopping at Hy-Vee here in Ames, and I saw 4 people wearing hawk gear. What made me laugh is that the hawks are playing right now. Clearly these people do not know that "their" team is playing.
I'm glad I hardly see that with Iowa State fans, so I just thought I would share. Continue melting down.

I'm not sure this should make you laugh.
Fair weather fans is what separates the two programs. We may have a handful of die hards, but they have a much larger following. As a result, they get the lion's share of the in state recruits, and far more money infused into their program.

In eastern Iowa Hy-Vee' s ---I have been there many times well after kickoff's of Iowa fb games this year (unfortunately in the Walmart areas too) and oodles of Hawk trolls wearing the garb--totally oblivious of the game time and probably the opponent

I had to work today (I know I was ticked that I had to miss the game) and we stopped at subway for breakfast. We were working south of iowa city and the people working in subway were wearing hawk shirts. One of the guys I work with asks them "Who does Iowa play today?" They kinda look at each other and none of them know. My co-worker replies, "Oh, I saw your shirt and thought you were a fan." Made me chuckle.

I wish that we had won the battle for the fair weather fan.

Exactly, I would kill for a million shills to be walking around the United states, having no idea what time our game is on, wearing cyclone gear.
I know people love to make fun of them, but the casual fan, the boob who never went to ISU but still wears their gear and supports them is the fan we are missing. It still baffles me how it somehow makes us better because we don't have people who didn't go to ISU that are fans of the teams. It is by far and away one of the biggest things that says your program is successful.
