Chinese Toddler Run Over, Ignored for 10 Minutes
Outrage in China after toddler run over, ignored - CNN.com
Quote:
A security camera captured the horrific incident last Thursday outside a hardware market in Foshan, Guangdong Province. Two-year-old Wang Yue was seen toddling in the middle of a narrow street and looking around, oblivious to a fast-approaching white van.
The disturbing video shows the van knocking the girl over. The driver briefly stops with the girl underneath the van, before continuing on, its rear tires slowly rolling over her small body. The girl is left barely moving in her own blood as several pedestrians and cyclists pass by.
Minutes later, another small truck drives over Wang without slowing down, the video shows. More passers-by walked, cycled or drove around her motionless body without stopping -- until a woman carrying a sack appeared 10 minutes after the initial collision. Dropping her sack, she quickly moved the girl to safety and went to look for help.
There is also a video. I can't believe how despicable and pathetic this is.
Re: Chinese Toddler Run Over, Ignored for 10 Minutes
In the video they are blaming the education system. You need to be well educated to know that the girl needs help?!
Re: Chinese Toddler Run Over, Ignored for 10 Minutes
I'm not going to watch the video, thank you.
Not wanting to send this to the cave, but this unfortunately isn't suprising when a society does not value life like we do here in the US.
Re: Chinese Toddler Run Over, Ignored for 10 Minutes
Saw it a few days ago, will never watch it again. Disgusting human beings.

You obviously have no idea about the US.

The fact is there are very few "Heroes" in the world. People don't like to get involved.

It's a cultural difference we can't possibly begin to understand.

How many beating videos are there with people watching? Let's not be so high and mighty.

Re: Chinese Toddler Run Over, Ignored for 10 Minutes
Sadly, this is not uncommon in parts of the Far East. Pardon my for being graphic, but often women will go into parts of the nearby jungles to birth children and leave them there. Other times they will take unwanted infants to the water's edge and leave them to drown. In one instance a group of us ran to what appeared to be a baby flailing in the water only to find when we got there that the child was dead and the movement was caused only by the waves moving the extremities.
Their reality in which they live is far different than our own reality.

Regardless of the other circumstances, there is a difference between ignoring a situation and actively participating. I can't say that one is better than another, but it takes a lot more callous to drive over someone.

Yeah right. One quick google search will contradict that statement.

This is from MSNBC: "While decrying the decay in social morality, many commentators have also pointed to China's lack of legal protections, such as a "GoodSamaritanhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_11pxw.gif" law that would protect people from lawsuits if they try to help others in distress."
Behind The Wall - Tot, 2, run over twice, and no one helps
Some news reports and online discussions made the point that civil behavior is not always rewarded in China. Many people fear they’re being subject to some sort of scam while others remember still a well-known case from 2006, when a man helped a woman who had fallen only to have her accuse him of causing the injury to begin with. She filed a suit against him, in which the judge ruled the man wouldn’t have come to her aid had he not caused the fall.
