Re: Pearl Jam Twenty
I'm just going to throw this out there. I was in no way, shape or form a PJ fan for the first 26ish years of my life. Just was too slow for me and just really didn't appreciate the type of music. I have only recently just started to not turn the station when they came on. Well, last Friday I caught this on PBS. It was a Grinch getting a bigger heart type of thing for me while watching this. Now, PJ is like a brand new band that I had never heard before and I think they're an amazing band. I'm amped when I hear one of their songs. Just a great story that clicked something in the brainhouse. Just thought I'd throw my "how I became a PJ fan" story out there.

Quite a few of their songs really hit home with me. Release is one of them. I have a bit of a similar story personally that I relate to in that song. I guess thats where Pearl Jam worked with me.

Re: Pearl Jam Twenty
Amen! The whole doc is very well done- you can really tell Cameron Crowe is a fan. The whole PJ origin story blows me away. I had heard bits and pieces of it before, but never really this completely. The whole "momma-son" demo tape, and then playing their first show 6 days after they meet him for the first time.
The beginning of PJ20 also does a great job of representing time and place (Seattle, early 90's).

I too was not a Pearl Jam fan for a long, long time. I always disliked them and never really could explain it. I liked a few songs here and there, but they just never clicked with me.
For some reason, when the self titled (Avocado) album came out, I asked a buddy of mine who was a huge PJ fan to burn it for me. I listened to it as I pulled out of Ames for the summer between my junior and senior years, and the whole thing just smoked me like a ton of bricks. For some reason the light bulb just went off. My brother and I went and picked up at least 3 or 4 albums and it was almost all I listened to for the next 3 months (with lots of RHCP and Tool thrown in for good measure).
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -

There was some pretty solid guitar work on that album.

We tried to hate, but they eventually won us over. I will say that I've never had a situation like this before, where I disliked a band since the first time I heard one of their songs, only to being completly enamored by their music. It's kinda crazy.

Re: Pearl Jam Twenty
Ten was one of my first cassettes. Vs was one of my first CDs. I was just starting to get into music, pretty good time for that.
Of course I'm not gonna lie, Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em was one of my first cassettes also. -

Re: Pearl Jam Twenty
I really liked PJ about 15-20 years ago. I'll once in a while put something of theirs on my playlist but I haven't found anything that I liked from them in the last 10 years.

I've only seen them live once, unfortunately. I was at the Council Bluffs show, and 04 sounds about right. I would LOVE to see them again.
Edit: It was June of 03 on the Riot Act Tour.
