The "personality" thing is BS. Stoops knows the score at Iowa. King Kirk presides. Stoops will do as directed. Yes absolutely Stoops is going to want another crack at a HC job. I guess it depends on how much success he has as Iowa's DC as to when he'll leave but I'd guess 2-5 years.

Yes, just two seasons ago, they won the Orange Bowl.
Those are all good, valid points. The problem is, that this is College Sports, and today's landscape sticks very closely to the mantra of "What have you done for me lately?" Successful coaches are run out of town all the time after just a few poor seasons. Why should Kirk be different?
And Kirk is a victim of his own success. 3 consecutive top 10 finishes will do that. He set the bar very, very high and was rewarded for it. Those three seasons taught the fan base that the hardships that faced Iowa can be overcome and done with consistency. After that lesson had been taught, the old "Poor little Iowa" schtick doesn't play as well, anymore. Now he, and his apologists, are trying to go back and claim that Iowa is not capable of the expectations that he set, himself.
The fans have every right to be upset. They have every right to ask for change.
That said, should he be fired? Of course not. Firing KF would be a terrible idea. The chances of them landing another coach who could get them to the places that KF has taken them is slim to none.
This is a very good summary of the situation that Iowa Football and its fans face.
On one hand KF has demonstrated that he IS capable of doing more with less and leading the program to high levels. However once you reach those high levels the fan base/AD/Boosters are much less likely to accept a mediocre performance.
The truth of the matter is that this could just be an off game or possibly at worst an off year. Iowa could very well turn the remainder of this season around, win a couple more games and the raging masses will settle down and turn to next year looking to improve. Even the best programs have bad seasons, this could just be one of those. Or perhaps this season might be a lost cause and the best that can be hoped for is a .500 finish and a bowl game that no one cares about. In perspective is that really THAT bad?
On the other hand this could be the start of a bad trend for Iowa. Is Norm losing his effectiveness since his illnesses have driven him to the pressbox? Maybe. Is KF's apparent lack of gameday coaching getting worse?
The reality is that changing the scheme on offense or defense could be exactly what is needed, or it could be a disaster. If you change shemes do your recruits fit the new scheme? Probably not, if so is the scheme change enough of a variation to actually acheive the results that you want? If the players dont fit the system then it could take years to get the "right players" on the field and by then the losses will likely continue to have piled up. Then what?
All I can say to IA fans is be careful what you wish for. Things are probably not as bad as it seems right now and were probably never as good as it seemed just a few years back in the BCS bowl winning season. Just a few plays can make or break a game and a season.

(I hate to keep beating up on them because I actually don't mind listening to their show when I have the time) -- but compare the last two days of Miller and Deace talking nothing but Hawks and 'Clones without the need for any mind-numbing callers to what the 1700, The Champ, offered up on their noontime show just on Monday (sorry, I didn't catch today's) where Cotlar and Garman ******* and moaned that they couldn't get any Cyclone fans to call in during a 15 minute segment they'd set aside to take calls from Cyclone fans. Wow...great radio! 1) they can't fill the time with their own insightful thoughts and 2) they aren't able to create the situation to warrant people to call-in.

Not really in the conference. They beat the teams that are equal to them most of the time, that is where they get their wins. Most years when you program is where Iowas is that is a good thing, except when you lose to teams worse than you. Every program has its ups and downs so the number of teams that are equal to you or better than you varies from year to year. I heard KF is something like 55-45 in conference play.

I heard KF is something like 55-45 in conference play. 2010- MSU whoopin in Kinnick last year even though Iowa finished with seven wins in the regular season and MSU had 11(their lone loss in the regular season)
2009-Iowa beat #5 PSU @ PSU, then went and beat a ranked Wisconsin team in Wisconsin
2008-beat #3 PSU
2007-beat an Rosebowl bound Illinois team with the worst quarterback in KF tenure
2006-got nothin' they did almost beat a much better Texas team though.
2005 -Beat a 8-2 win Wisconsin team @ Wisconsin (I assume they were ranked)
2004-I wouldn't say there were any major upsets but that's what happens when you have a good football team. They did beat OSU 33-7, a 9-1 Wisc 30-7, then beat LSU in the bowl game. You may have heard about that one.
2003 - beat #4 Michigan,
2002 - #10 PSU @ PSU, #11 Michigan
