Learning Thermostat
Nest | The Learning Thermostat | Living With Nest
Its actually a pretty slick concept. At a 246 dollar pricetag I would expect it to work well. Its being reported that you basically will get all of that back in saving throughout the year. Love the wifi feature for remote access. I believe some of the guys who designed the ipod worked on this project.

Re: Learning Thermostat
I heard that if you constantly tell it to keep heating or cooling your house even when nobody is home you can hear it faintly crying.

Re: Learning Thermostat
Does it learn that what makes the wife comfortable is all that matters?

Re: Learning Thermostat
bos, your house must be full of toys.

Re: Learning Thermostat
Its looks pretty sweet. I like the look, the wifi and the fact that it will automatically go into vacation mode. I already have a proramable thermostat that is actually programed so I don't think I would save very much.

Actually no. Believe it or not. For a tech guy, I surprisingly have minimal toys at home. I do however love things that can save me money.

Re: Learning Thermostat
Wouldn't a programmable thermostat do the same thing except you set the schedule yourself instead of the device "learning" your schedule?

In theory, but I think this thing is a bit more proactive. Im looking for some reviews that delve into it more. I want some proof as well.

Re: Learning Thermostat
I do like this feature. My wife fiddles with the damn thermostat because she never feels like its heating the house fast enough. Nest | What is Time to Temperature? -

Bump
Bos, did you ever get one?
I'm thinking about getting a smart thermostat and was wondering if you like it. I'd definitely like to go the wireless route where I can access it from the internet.

Re: Learning Thermostat
I havent yet, I just put in new windows so extra cash is a bit tight. Im thinking maybe this winter. They recently did a software update the supposedly will turn your ac off a few minutes early and uses your fan to push cold air into your house. Claims the ac always makes cold air for 5-10 minutes or so after its shut off so this is actually more efficient. I cant wait to try the thing out, but like I said, its a decent initial investment that I dont have at the moment.

To save some cost, I'm converting $180 Discover dollars to $200 at Lowes, and I also have a Lowes 10% off.
I'll keep you updated on if I do, and how it works.
