Help with blu ray player? Need wifi adapter
I found a decent blu ray player for my brother at a Best Buy last night for $40. This is what I bought:
http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-BDX215.../dp/B005DII6DC
I got caught by the title "wifi ready" in the description. Turns out, you need a usb adapter, "sold separately". Still is a decent player for $40, but I'd like to not have to string an ethernet cable from my brother's office to his TV room so he can use Netflix and stuff. Anyone happen to know what kind of USB wifi adapter I can use with this thing? I have googled and googled, no luck.
Re: Help with blu ray player? Need wifi adapter
USB adapter is probably going to be more expensive than the player, unless you can find a non toshiba one that will work.

Yeah, this is the biggest scam with a lot of 'wifi ready' blu ray players. Lower the price to make you think youve got a good deal, then require an expensive adapter.
Re: Help with blu ray player? Need wifi adapter
Hey Hugs, you can get a wifi adapter but I would strongly recommend you look into a powerline adapter. I have a wifi blu-ray in an upstairs family room. The wifi worked just ok but not great. Newegg had a powerline adapter, which allows you to send an internet signal from your router to a remote computer or other device (blu-ray) through your home's electrical system. The speed difference was immediately noticeable. I'm now able to stream HD to my upstairs blu-ray, which I was unable to do over wifi without pixelation and/or freezing.
Here's the one I got. Unfortunately it looks like the sale ended and they are now $49 (I got mine for $29) but if you keep your eyes open you will eventually find a deal on one.

PS: If you get this one do NOT install the software. It doesn't work and is more trouble that it's worth. Just plug in both ends and go and it will work fine.
Re: Help with blu ray player? Need wifi adapter
Powerline isnt a bad idea, and then you'd be able to connect any other devices as well in the future if you wanted to. I do the same thing for my bedroom tivo.
Re: Help with blu ray player? Need wifi adapter
I had a similar situation and was able to avoid buying the proprietary USB wifi adapter by taking an old Linksys WRT45G wireless router, replacing its original firmware with DD-WRT, and turning it into a wireless bridge. Then I could run ethernet cable from bluray to the router, and have it act as a wireless bridge to my main router in the basement.
Not exactly a process for the faint of heart (had to sprinkle some salts on the router and say a few ancient chants while rebooting, hoping the firmware flash worked), but if you have an old wrt45g router laying around or can get one cheap, it's another option.
