How good is the Blackberry Playbook?
The Blackberry Playbook looks interesting at $200, but I am interested specifically in running Android apps on it. I have heard that this is done on the PB through an emulation layer or virtual machine or something, which sounds very slow to me. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this thing.

Just buy an iPad. The playbook is not worth even 200 bucks. The fact that had to lower the price because they couldn't sell them should tell you all you need to know.

Re: How good is the Blackberry Playbook?
I've used the Playbook, but I do not own one. And I agree, the price cut has been tempting. It's cool if you have a Blackberry because you can bridge the two together wirelessly for free tethering. Dedicated tablet software continues to improve.
Lack of available apps will improve with February software update that includes Android emulator. Not available now, but those who have done beta testing say it works great. Word of warning: Android app developers will have to make one small update to apps and then submit to Blackberry App World.
I would read some threads over at Crackberry.com. A lot of pro and con discussions on owning. My consensus: hardware is second to none, software continues to improve with regular updates, will Android emulator break the app barrier?

Re: How good is the Blackberry Playbook?
I'm happy with it. I just wanted something so I wasn't lugging my laptop around all the time.
Really wanted the 32GB for $249 at Staples, but the store didn't have one; got the last 16GB they had. It sounded from what I read online as though this price drop (from BB) could last into next week (don't know what the vendors will do, though).
No SD card slot, and USB is a micro slot, but have found adaptors online that will allow me to connect either a flash drive or SD card reader (like $5, Amazon and some other places, not Best Buy or Staples though).
I really haven't taken the time to invesigate the Blackberry app store to see what they have that might interest me.
BB is stepping up to the plate in that the first thing that occurs is the PB will download an OS update. There will be a complete OS update in Feb (to be fair, this is the third or fourth date they have announced for it). This will include a native email program.
As Rogue52 said, the BB/PB tethering concept is nice; the problem was that BB thought that the tethering ability in and of itself would drive sales, and it hasn't. So BB, in my opinion, has had to back up and start to make this a tablet instead of just being a bigger screen for a BB phone.
