The nebulous genre sometimes referred to as downtempo that hit its high point in the late nineties?

Pretty sure Submotion Orchestra is more Dubstep.....I would argue it's still going especially if you count Thievery Corporation as part of downtempo. It can be pretty nebulous though, you're right. Maybe "Chill out" would be a better term nowadays. Still going very strong.

    Re: Anyone Into Downtempo Electronica/Trip-Hop?

I do kind of group all forms of downtempo together, but I like the big/classic players:

Thievery Corporation, Massive Attack, The Orb, Gus Gus, Tricky, Portishead, Royksopp, Amon Tobin, Underworld.

Lately I've been listening to Tycho's latest album, DIVE and a bunch of stuff from Pretty Lights. Also listen to Boards of Canada, The Album Leaf, Prefuse 73, Burial, Four Tet.

What are some of your faves?

I like Zero7, Ratatat and Guitar. Also, if you like funky, not-quite-classifiable music I suggest you take a listen to von Thord. They are a two-man string band from Sweden (cello and upright bass) but they do great, eclectic stuff. This is the song of theirs that made me a fan: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGNllvQpnDA&feature=related]Von Thord - Wedding Night - YouTube[/ame]
"No matter how many hours you study opponent films, there's only going to be eleven players on the other side of the line of scrimmage." - Sid Gillman

It's a simple game in which strategic beauty comes not from being surprised by some new clever trick, but from the sublime, routine brilliance of a master in his element.

Nice. I haven't heard Tycho's latest album. Saw Pretty Lights this summer. Pretty awesome.

My favorites right now are Thievery Corporation, Banco De Gaia, Massive Attack, Portishead, Morcheeba, The Orb, some stuff by Nightmares on Wax. Bunch of stuff from Buddha Bar cds and Hotel Costes sometimes

Just discovered Pretty Lights and I like them a lot. Do check out Tycho - I really dig the new album. Can't believe I forgot about Banco De Gaia. Used to spin a lot of them when I DJ'd at ISU 10 years ago. The Thievery Corp's Mirror Conspiracy album is an album I will always listen to. Just great. Wish I could find more stuff like that album.

If you like Jazzy stuff, check out St. Germain. It's played by a real jazz ensemble and not programmed / synthesized.
