Get ready for it...
If OSU plays in the title game, the national media won't give us much credit for beating them. Rather, they'll focus mostly on OSU losing because they were dealing with the loss of the women's basketball coaches who died that week. It's already starting with a few of the bigger names in the media (Musburger, Herbstreit, Vitale, etc).
Yes, it was a tragedy, but I just don't know if I buy that the OSU players were that affected by it during the game. If anything, maybe because it happened to people so close to them (same school), their minds wandered a bit and they had thoughts like, 'wow, stuff like that really does happen. I hope it doesn't happen to us.' I can kind of understand that, as I remember how upset I was when a kid from the same junior high I went to died in a car accident. I wasn't friends with him, but because it was a kid from my school, it really got to me.
Anyway, I hope the media will give us some respect, but unfortunately I don't really see it happening outside of Iowa. As anyone who took any journalism classes can probably agree, the "overcoming a tragedy" angle will be too much for the media to resist.

Re: Get ready for it...
The media is already doing it.
However...to say it didn't affect them is laughable.

Re: Get ready for it...
I had a friend who played cfb who told me he doubted it had any effect.

Correction: They tried to put us away when they had the chance, but COULD not!!

Perhaps - you do realize the only OSU score in the 1st quarter was off that interception where Barnett KNEW the LB was out of position pre-snap, but as the ball was being snapped realized it and magically found himself in the right place at the right time for a flukey pick-6 off a screen pass, right? OSU's offense was not clicking that first quarter, and had it been ISU may have never been within range to pull off the improbable comeback.

Re: Get ready for it...
I don't think it affected their team, but it's a story that the media can work with, since they have names and pictures and stuff.
As far as whether we get our credit leading up to their bowl game, we already got it. They can't take it away now. We shocked the world, we led the sports news coverage, and everybody clearly knew that it all happened. We got ours.

Re: Get ready for it...
Since ESPN hasn't come up with a stat to reflect the loss of life on a game (yet)...we will never know. To those who honestly think it had no affect at all, don't become delusional like the fans across the state that we all loathe.
We out played them...were the much better team that night...deserved the win and respect....but NO AFFECT...come on.

Re: Get ready for it...
The national media is all over it already.
The ONLY reason OSU lost to ISU was because of the tragedy. It had NOTHING to do with how well ISU played at all.
Oh well... I guess any press is good press, right? We're being talked about in the national media. I guess it gives us more exposure.

Re: Get ready for it...
I agree. Plane crash did affect our team . We felt sympathy for them otherwise we would not have given them the pick six.

Re: Get ready for it...
John Saunders called us a bad loss before the kickoff last night.

Re: Get ready for it...
It was a bad loss. Is there a good loss except if your Alabama or LSU and whether you lose or win you still get to play in the title game because that's what the big stations want!

The plane crash may have had some effect on them (personally, I doubt it was anywhere near 4 touchdowns worth), but they should have been over that by the 4th quarter and been able to put us away. They didn't. Bad loss for them.

When you're shooting for a BCS championship game ANY loss is a bad loss, it doesn't matter how good the team you lost to is. Alabama's loss to LSU was a bad loss - it just so happens it occurred earlier in the year and to the team that just happens to be the #1 team in the nation, so the significance of the loss has been diminished. But it's still a bad loss.
