I don't even...just...wow (celebration penalty nullifies state title)
I would recommend not watching the accompanying video past the play in question. It's nothing but Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless. Celebration penalty on TD costs Cathedral High School team title - ESPN Boston -

Tough call, have seen a lot worse let go.

Yeah I saw this a few days ago, horrible interpretation of the rules by the official that threw the flag.

1. Skip Bayless is an idiot
I have mixed feelings on this. I think that motion was fine in the context of what was going on. I don't have a problem. Having said that, though, the rule is the rule. We here it all the time. If it's a penalty/foul early, it's one late. If I'm a ref, do I call that? Probably not, but I would not be officiating by the book if I didn't. I don't like the rule but I agree with Stephen A that it is there to train these guys early and this has started with the NFLs lockdown of this type of thing.

My god...Skip Bayless might be the only person in America who makes Stephen A Smith sound/look good.

Re: I don't even...just...wow (celebration penalty nullifies state title)
It wasn't taunting...it wasn't directed at the opposing team at all. And he wasn't show-boating. Doesn't make sense.

I don't know if you can make the case that it was "excessive" either.

There shouldn't be a celebration penalty. There should be a taunting penalty and that is it. If they aren't taunting, let em celebrate, for Pete's sake. I used to be so frustrated with ISU getting the excessive celebration flag when the team was real bad. I would think "Cripes, these guys don't score very often, let them celebrate it a little bit."

I hate the celebration penalties. If its not delaying the game, and its not taunting, it shouldnt be a penalty. Its a game, have fun.

Here's a youtube video if you're like me and would rather not subject yourself to Skip Bayless or Stephen A. Smith.

Putting one arm up in the air is nothing.

After watching it again, I don't think he got a celebration penalty at all. I think they flagged him for advancing the ball after signalling for a fair catch. I don't like the rule and I don't think it should exist, but it does. I don't like hand checking called either but it exists.
