Sports Car Insurance?
I just bought a new sports car and was wondering if anyone had any advice about insurance? This is for pleasure and I don't plan on driving it more than 6,000 miles per year. I looked at an online quote from GEICO and they are much cheaper than anyone else I've looked at.
TIA!

Yep, need to know what you bought. For all we know your idea of a sports car is a 1994 civic with a fart can on it

It really does make a difference what kind of sports car you are talking about. If it's not a mass produced car, I'm not sure I'd go with Geiko. I'd go with something with a local agent that you can do more than put "book value" insurance on it.

I am with Farm Bureau. You can pick your policies fairly easily, designate a price point that you feel it is worth, and you can also take it off insurance collision for the winter and just keep enough insurance on it to cover it if the building burns or what have not.
Definitely take a look there. I had my car quoted numerous places, and Farm Bureau is spot on with most other insurance companies if not cheaper, and a lot cheaper when I took it off collision for the winter months. Seeing your in Texas probably not a big deal, but you might want it to park it for other reasons.
I went to college thinking I wanted a career; turns out I just wanted paychecks. A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory. -
Re: Sports Car Insurance?
Some insurance companies will offer a "collector car" insurance - it is cheap because you are limited in miles and they assume you will only be driving it in nice weather. I don't have any experience with it myself, but have heard it discussed on some of the collector car shows on SpeedChannel.
You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment. The moral: you gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not. -

I'm not sure a Fiero qualifies as a sports car.

It's a 2012 Corvette 2LT. And when I say GEICO has the cheapest quote, I'm talking $1400/yr vs. $2800+. That's a big difference. I'm about to call GEICO to see for sure.

Nice! Someone must have won Food Additive Designer of the Year for their non-nutritive cereal varnish. Boom.....transfer the karma -
Re: Sports Car Insurance?
Well, that seemed too easy. Went with GEICO, $668 for 6 months. 24 year old single male with one speeding ticket 18 months ago. Thought it would be WAY more than that.
BI - $100k/300k
PD - $100k
PIP - $5k
Uninsured Motorist BI - $50k/$100k
Uninsured Motorist PD - $50k
COMP - $500 deduct.
COLL - $500 deduct.

Geico should be fine, but have fun if there is ever a problem with a claim, hard to get anything done over the phone with a person a 1000 miles away.
