True, I guess that would depend on size. We go through a $45 bag of food per month for our goldendoodle. Probably another $75 on heart worm per year, a few hundred on vet bills, $20 per week on doggie daycare, and with all the random toys, bones treats, we probably easy spend a couple G's on our dog per year.
Ours is a shelter mutt that was supposed to be half dachsund/half chihuahua, but he's definitely got some Jack Russel or Rat terrier in him too. So needless to say, he's a lot smaller than a goldendoodle. It takes him 5 months to go through a $30 bag of food, and outside of heart worm and Frontline, his bills have been pretty low. We don't take him to day care or anything like that, but definitely pick up lots of random toys and treats.
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
If you and your girlfriend have any plans like marriage or kids in the remotely near future, then don't get a dog. I have an eight month old boy, a five year old boxer, 13 year old terrier, and a sphinx cat. Know what else I have? A ******** of gray hair that wasn't there a year ago. Have a pet or have a baby, but for God's sake don't have both.
