    New year's eve Weather Thread

It isn't going to be an end of the world storm. Not a lot of ice, not a lot of snow, but a little bit, plus winds blowing maybe up to 55 or 60 mph at times, plus a lot of drunk drivers has the potential to not be very pretty.

Worst of it will be north, but a lot of this will be moving through right at midnight/1am, as people are leaving or right before they head home.

    Here are the maps:
    Winter Weather Advisory
    High Wind Warning

With the wind, even just a little bit of snow or ice will make it tough, even in Des Moines/Ames with the worst staying north.

Times like this, I love living in the south. And I will continue feeling that way until summer hits and we are suddenly in triple digit temperatures.

Nice avatar... spent countless hours in that building! :)

Not quite to me yet, but it soon will be. Winds are going to be awfully strong tonight and tomorrow, and still quite breezy for Monday too. Not a ton of snow, but the combo wind/snow isn't fun. Expecting some low visibilities / blowing snow in Minnesota and northern Iowa.

Re: New year's eve Weather Thread

Had a few friends and fellow meteorologists in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota state they had thundersnow over the past hours as the cold front pushes through. As said above, even though there isn't a lot if snow the winds with this system are definitely going to create hazardous travel conditions.
