Just my opinion but I don't know that I'd be buying a re-certified laptop for that price. I have no problem with re-certified laptops but at some point it just doesn't make a lot of sense.

This seems like a god price on a good laptop if this is the amount of money you want to spend.

I would second dmclone's suggestion, and I wouldn't worry about the Blu-Ray drive. Having a Blu-Ray drive in your laptop isn't all that special. I can't think of any software that is distributed on that format, and you're not going to notice much of a difference watching a Blu-Ray on that laptop vs. a DVD because of a combination of the small screen size, and its 720p resolution.
If you want a Blu-Ray player to hook up to your TV, I would recommend getting a stand-alone player. They're reasonably cheap now (<$100). Trying to use your laptop as a Blu-Ray player kind of sucks. For one, even with HDMI cables I find it mildly annoying to hook up/disconnect my computer from my TV to watch Blu-Rays. Two, the Blu-Ray software that ships with laptops tends to be poor. For example, the software that was bundled with my Sony Vaio is updated infrequently, so I often would be unable to watch the newest releases on my laptop.

Hmm sounds interesting, I was just planning on going with an HDMI cable to my computer. Does MLB network come in 1080p otherwise there is a $50 Roku for 720p.

i'm not sure. i can't find anywhere on their website where it gives a maximum resolution. however if you live anywhere near the Chicago television market you'll be blacked out of the White Sox games on MLB.tv. in Iowa i can't watch the Braves when they play any one of the 6 teams in neighboring states.

Thankfully, I live in KC now and only the royals are blacked out and I get those games on tv anyways.
The roku sounds like an interesting idea though. Not sure which quality to get.

My 4.5 year old laptop ending up breaking about 2 weeks ago when I was on vacation. I was in a rush to buy one, so I found this one at Best Buy. I usually don't buy laptops there, but this one was hard to pass up.
It's a Lenovo V570. 2.4 Ghz Intel Core i5 Processor, 6 GB of RAM, 750 GB Hard Drive, webcam (the webcam as usual sucks), fingerprint reader, 15.6 inch screen, DVD RW drive, digital media card slot, 4 USB slots (no USB 3.0), etc. Even has a WiMax card on it with the regular wireless and ethernet jack.
$579. The reviews from PC Magazine list it as "Very Good" as well, and I believe CNet gave it that rating as well.

Had it for about 2 weeks and it is great. Really fast, and my boot up time average is probably 40 seconds, but has been as low as 30 seconds. Absolutely no complaints from me so far with this thing. Can't believe it was that price.

I bought a Dell Inspiran 14z last fall. I got the $699 computer for $599 with free shipping. I really like it. It's thin, but more sturdy than my old Dell. Love the 'chicklet' style keyboard.
And they didn't charge me for it for a month. If I hadn't brought it to their attention, I might not have been charged.
