I was never blown away enough by HD to really get that involved in it. My first HD TV was purchased because there wasn't anything else available when I had to purchase another TV.
None the less, the whole HD and digital revolution has been more of a money grab by cable companies than anything else. I still don't find myself enjoying football games any more in HD than I did pre-HD.
I do notice a difference, don't get me wrong, it just doesn't really improve my enjoyment of the programming. The only real benefit I have to owning an HD TV, is with playing video games. To each his own. If it's not the Cyclones and it's not in HD, I don't watch it.

If you have standard cable, there is no package that is 8 dollars a month to get HD. Assuming Mediacom has that listed right.

Here's a list of the digital channels if you want it. Quam Tuner Lineup (Ames).pdf -

Ahh, this would be because Mediacom is crap.

The time before when the feds got involved in cable "deregulation" the prices soared up within 6 months.

I feel sorry for all of you that still use mediacom. There is a brave new world out there, and almost every channel is in HD.

Re: Why does ESPN HD on Mediacom look like crap?
So, what does it cost a network to broad cast in HD, I am sure a person with an antanae on their roof can recieve any signal, digitized hd or other. Why so many combinations of signals. HD---Digital--I don't believe their is anything else to choose from. Are their cameras being used that are not digital, Like at bb and football games? My ESPNU looks worse than digital channels. I need specific helpful answers, not ramblings about your set up.

Mine though is more like, if it's not the Cyclones and it's on TV, I'm probably not watching it. There are so many options out there now for Television based entertainment, that as I said before, if it wasn't for my wife, I wouldn't have cable at all.

And that number is going to go up in the coming months when mediacom goes all digital. They can fit 3-4 HD channels in the same space as 1 analog channel so they'll have quite a bit of space with the 50 analog channels that are going away.
That said, i can only think of two channels that ive wanted to watch recently that wasnt in HD: ESPNU- one of the first slated to get upgraded soon (theyve already got it in the areas theyve gone all digital), and MC22. Itd be nice to see mediacom upgrade their own channel, but otoh stuff that is on there might not be on tv at all if it werent for them.

My bad, I guess it's been a while since I looked at the Mediacom lineup.
