So, what does it cost a network to broad cast in HD, I am sure a person with an antanae on their roof can recieve any signal, digitized hd or other. Why so many combinations of signals. HD---Digital--I don't believe their is anything else to choose from. Are their cameras being used that are not digital, Like at bb and football games? My ESPNU looks worse than digital channels. I need specific helpful answers, not ramblings about your set up.
There's a lot of costs in doing HD. For a basketball game for instance, the cameras have to be in HD, the truck has to have HD equipment, etc.
Why are there so many different signals? Because not every tv is digital hd.
Because of that we have 3 types of signals:
1. Legacy analog signal- being phased out by cable providers. Standard def.
2. Standard def digital- Available for 2 purposes, the first for tvs without HD, and secondly to take up less space. Cable providers have a limited amount of bandwidth they can use, and a digital SD channel takes up less than a digital HD channel (getting rid of the analog channels will help this problem)\
3.High def digital- this is what everything is trying to get to. Unfortunately not all tvs can handle it at this point.
